Echo (Disney +)
Echo is a recent show from Marvel based on a comic series about a Native/Latina-American woman who is deaf and working with, then against, the mob. I found the show intriguing as it included Native American + Deaf community representation. I saw a behind the scenes clip of the show on TikTok and I liked how they explained how much detail and how they got involved with the community that they filmed with; that they really wanted to be inclusive to Native American stories and representation - I had a great interest and appreciation for it.
Although it may not be 100% accurate to every Native American or Deaf people experience (as I would not know due to not being a part of those communities), I do like how we are seeing more examples of it done, more so with the focus being on the two communities. I loved it even more seeing some familiar actors, such as from the Twilight movies - so glad to see them(some familiar faces) again. If you're interested in watching, you can find the series on Disney(+) Plus.
Griselda
Sofia Vergara did an amazing job with this show. I was impressed. I haven't watched any of the Narcos series yet (as I already know they would be too intense to watch). However, I already know there is a strong comparison between the two, and I watched it because Vergara carried as per usual! The show was very quick with getting to the point to the story (which left out a lot of information and events), but it made sure to show the main events of her come up in the drug/narcotic industry. My main reason for watching it was to see Sofia Vergara's performance, as this was out of the norm of her usual acting work and I was not let down. Can't wait to see her get more serious roles - she was tremendous.
The Crown
I've only seen the seasons of the show that included Princess Diana -- I loved them. I think they did an amazing job; the actresses that played Diana were pretty on par with the real princess in both appearance and mannerisms. It was very realistic in the representation of almost all the characters/real life royals; it felt like we were actually able to take a peek behind the curtain of their very much private life. The acting was amazing; I recommend. It's different seeing old interview and news clips to seeing real-life situations played out. Although I understand most scenes were embellished due to the plotline of the show, it seemed very plausible. It gave me an insight of the royal family that I never had before....same with Princess Diana. It's always better to have a more realistic view of those we admire or look up too. One of my favorite teas is also from the show, a special edition Princess Diana tea set that I stand by to this day!
Disenchantment
Although this may not be a newly released show, they did have a newly released season in 2023. I have yet to get started on the latest season, but so far I've enjoyed binging all the previous other seasons. As a giant fan of the Simpsons, although this is not on par with the original show, the creator did a great job with this one. I've enjoyed how it's women centered, modern yet in times of the mythical, as well as the other characters and their development. A very good show to watch for a laugh. Lucy is one of my favorite characters. I definitely recommend, it's pretty funny, especially with the well known actors, such as Matt Berry and Eric André.
What We Do in The Shadows
Another show that's been around for a while with an upcoming season is What We Do in the Shadows. This show has also been one of my favorites that I would watch with my roommates on repeat over and over. Their lines as vampires (especially Lazlo's) are iconic. I've hardly ever laughed so hard than with this show. It's absolutely hilarious, and again, including Matt Berry who is also one of my favorite characters in the show. Currently they are recorded their last and upcoming season; I very much recommend this show if you want a good laugh.
Hope you enjoy watching these shows I've recommended. If there are any new ones I haven't listed that you recommend - let me know!
