We all have our comfort shows that we can always go back to and watch on repeat any day. And here are several of my top shows that I've loved and continue to watch on repeat.
The Sopranos
Having a love for Italian American films (and a recent subscription to HBO Max), I had decided to give The Sopranos a chance about a year a year or two ago. Although it was way more graphic than I thought it would be 10/10. Wow. What a show. Although I don't recommend it often due to the negative and harmful ideals that make the show, which I don't want to glamorize, it was well-made and had me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen to the characters next. Of course, Tony Soprano is my favorite, but I loved seeing the level of depth in these type characters you don't often have enough time to see in the ones you see in film; more so in a more modern time rather than the 1950s. The ending was very unexpected for me and give it a high recommendation from a film enthusiast perspective. Glad to see that the show has currently made a popular comeback; the actors did a great job worthy of their praise.
Malcolm in the Middle
![PC: Hulu](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/67da21_bb09de4b50af471a82fa86f3fde94d3c~mv2.jpeg/v1/fill/w_952,h_536,al_c,q_85,enc_auto/67da21_bb09de4b50af471a82fa86f3fde94d3c~mv2.jpeg)
Malcolm in the Middle was one of my favorite childhood shows that I would watch growing up with my cousins or at home. I loved it and it continues to be one of my favorite shows today. I recently got into watching it again to see if it was as good as I remembered and it was. The relationships and the struggles as well as the comedy of the show continue to be relevant to this day. You can find the show on Hulu if you're interested, which I 10/10 recommend for a good laugh and a good lesson at the end of the day.
Dexter
Dexter, like the rest of the shows on this list, is one of my favorite shows. I remember binging this show on Netflix in high school. This show had me completely captivated. It's about a serial killer with a secret bloodlust that uses his day job at Miami Homicide to find and kill criminals. Each episode has a twist and turn with a great cast that kept me hooked. I was thankful the show lasted so long, crazy how it ended. Currently, Dexter can be found through a subscription on Paramount + or through a free trial on most streaming apps.
The Last Airbender
In this case, I am talking about the animated series. Netflix recently came out with a live action series; yet thankfully the original animated series is still up on the streaming website as well. I used to watch this series when I was a kid; I recall really enjoying it, but I don't ever remember finishing it. And since during the pandemic, my roommates, friends and family started watching it again, finally I decided to give it another try. Also considering it was so popular for people my age, it gave me another reason to check it out. Turns out, pretty great show. It had great entertainment and my favorite was all of the great and valid lessons that many people almost never learn in their life that I consider to be crucial. Very impactful considering it was a show for kids. I would still rewatch again today as an adult.
Supernatural
I started watching Supernatural in early highschool after I seeing a few episodes with my sister. At the time it was very popular on Tumblr and some of the episodes caught my interest, so I decided to give it a try. Loved it. Became a fan of the characters, their development and how they turned myths and religious idols I grew up with into characters with stories and personalities. I had an appreciation for the attention to detail in mythology and history. As a history buff, I loved seeing these concepts come to life and be humanized. Watching this show was a lot of fun and it continues to be one of my comfort shows. Currently found on Netflix and possibly Hulu.
Scandal
This show had such an impact on me. I started watching this show on highschool, I think my sister started watching it first. When I started watching it, I had no idea who Shonda Rhimes was, but now she is one of the most popular and well-known producers and screenwriters of today, so of course this show is a hit! Considering that in highschool I was more so invested in politics (and considered a political avenue for a career), Olivia was my inspiration, and still is. Olivia Pope is the main character of the series and an idol to me. Funny enough I had no idea that I would end up majoring in public relations and crisis management just like she did. The whole show is a series of crisis and romance while involving some realistic political messes that relate to our time. There are so many things I love about this show, Olivia's character, fashion sense, love life as well as how realistic the political scene can be behind the curtain. This is an ABC show so you should be able to find it on Hulu.
Sons of Anarchy
Sons of Anarchy is a recent show I got into last year. I still haven't finished it, but it hooked me. I love motorcycles as well as the history behind some of the most well-known motorcycle groups. So, after many years, I barely decided to give this show a try. I avoided it because I didn't want to see the motorcycle "gang" life be glamorized, but reminding myself that this is a show and seeing how much the characters resented the life, I decided it was a good show to watch. However, since I like to take breaks from watching things that are too vulgar or obscene it's been a while since I watched it. But I definitely enjoy the characters and the turn of events. I recommend this show. I guess I also like this show because it reminds me a little bit of home and the style that I like. It takes place in California, where I am from, and uses some of the same music and aesthetics that I like. If you're interested in watching the series, you can find it on Hulu.
The Act
The Act is a series on Hulu based on real events. You'll want to watch this if you've heard of Gypsy Rose, who recently gained popularity before her recent release from prison. Either way it's a tragic story worthy of learning from. The series is based on the woman who experienced child abuse and was forced to put on an act as a diseased child that ended in the murder of her mother. The series stars actors such as Joey King and Calum Worthy. For those who like suspense and crime/investigative series, this is a good one (although Gypsy Rose claims it is not fully truthful and was done without her permission if you would like to keep that in mind when watching).
Law & Order SVU
Law & Order SVU was another pandemic watch for me that got me hooked. I had some family that would watch this show when I was a kid and I would immediately walk out of the room. I did not want to see horrible crimes or anything vulgar as a kid. Now as an adult that I've developed more of a stomach for these things, as well as an interest in crime and investigation shows, I gave it a try. And I was hooked. The first time I watched it I was trying to just watch one episode before going to sleep and I ended up staying up almost all night. Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson was also such an inspiration for me. At some point I had considered going into her type of field, but I decided to stick to where I am at right now. I loved her empathy and seeing not only people getting saved but also teh realistic and unfortunate endings that still happen.
Full House
At some point when I was younger, my parents got us cable, and of course, Nick at Night was a constant for me. Out of a few shows, I would watch Full House and I fell in love with the show. I was a fan of all of the characters, most especially Uncle Jesse considering a lot of the shared interests I had with that character, most importantly that of being a musician in the works. I loved seeing the growth and different stages of these characters as well as the heartwarming family moments. This show is a comfort show for me, as most shows from the past are. I am a fan of the 90s fashion and aesthetics; I live for it. You can currently find this show on Hulu.
Family Matters
Another comfort show for me. I watched it for the same reasons as I watched Full House. I loved the development between the characters Urkel and Laura. This show had me laughing so many times. Again, My favorite things about this show was the fashion, music and aesthetics of the times. You can currently find this show on Hulu.
The Nanny
Another one of my favorite shows from Nick at Night. The character played by Fran Drescher continues to be an inspiration for me to this day. Fran Fine continues to have some of the best fashion to this day. Not only was it iconic in the 90s but is clearly timeless and well liked to this day. I loved everything about this show, I still have fun watching. It's funny and sweet; a good show to watch for the girls, 10/10 recommend, you can find the series on HBO MAX.
